Talent Hunt now on weekends

January 6, 2012

With Bhutan Star now over, Mila Tobgay’s Talent Hunt show will be aired every weekend on BBS television.

The show is already a big hit among Bhutanese viewers.

According to popular singer Jigme Drukpa, the proprietor of Aa-Yang Music School in Thimphu, who teaches boedra and zhungdra to the show’s contestants, the children who have singing experience do better.

However, he said teaching adults how to sing is much easier than teaching children because adults do have ‘music language’ while children don’t.

He said that children are more interested in rigsar songs than boedra and zhungdra.

“But then, it also depends on their upbringing,” he added. “Children pick up much quicker than adults.”

The individuals eliminated every weekend are given a cash prize of Nu 10,000. The show’s top five contestants will be given a minimum cash prize of Nu 50,000. But sponsors will be sought for the top contestants, the organiser said.

When the show ends, the top five contestants will be sent to private schools until Class XII.  After that, the children will be sent to music schools to study music fulltime.

Some of the children have already received offers from filmmakers.

“As preservation and promotion of culture is one of the pillars of our development philosophy, teaching the children our culture – music and arts – is very important,” said Mila Tobgay.

The grand finale of this show will be held on February 21, corresponding with the birth anniversary of His Majesty the King.

Mila Tobgay has plans to organize essay competition for the top 10 contestants and publish a book. The winners of the essay competition will also be awarded prizes at the grand finale, he said.

Talent Hunt was launched on December 18, 2011.

I really wonder so many people are coming up with similar show yet different. Some years down the line Bhutanese viewers might get fed up and the organizer will make a cry saying s/he had incurred lost to the tune of Nu. ??????

Nothing against the organizers or person but a food for thought. I can see already a dipping sign of voters so will the profit margin of the organizers.
