OCA’s fun run tomorrow
April 22, 2011About 1,500 registered participants and many more streaming in to register are expected to take part in a Fun Run organized by Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) tomorrow.
The run will be flagged off at 10:00 am by Kuwaiti ambassador to Bhutan in the presence of the representatives from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
The 5-km route will stretch from the Changlingmithang parking lot to Dechenzam to Lungtenzampa and around BOD and then down to Changlingmithang.
The RBP will control the traffic along the run-route and timing.
“We are excited to have an opportunity to participate in the build up to the Incheon Asian Games through this OCA mandated fun run,” said Dorji Tenzin, the programme coordinator. “It is a run for happiness and better and healthier life, so everyone should take part in the event.”
Besides the run, there will also be guest entertainment programme with mass physical education drill by the Lungtenzampa students, bicycle tricks, taekwondo and junior boxers’ demonstration, and free style-dance.
The programme will also host 60-metre sprint for Draktsho students for the participation of all in view.
Bhutan Indigenous Sports Association (BIGSA), Olympic archery, shooting, football, boxing, table tennis and basketball federation stalls at Changlingmithang Stadium will put up many different fun games and activities for the public.
The winners for both male and female in senior, junior and sub-junior categories will be awarded medals and certificates from OCA.
Thimphu was selected by OCA as one of the Asian capitals to host the event in order to promote the 17th Asian Games to be held in Incheon, South Korea, 2014 and the spirit of Olympism.
The registration remains open till 8:30 am on the run day.
