Layog FC trounce Druk Paows 6-2
December 16, 2011Layog FC trounced Druk Paows 6-2 yesterday in the knockout stage of the ongoing Thimphu open league football tournament.
Gap Tshering from Layog FC scored the first goal in the 21st minute. After nine minutes, his teammate Gaywang Dorji added another. But Druk Paows couldn’t retaliate despite their best efforts.
Layog FC’s reign continued into the second half. Gap Tshering scored the 3rd goal for his team in the 49th minute followed by the 4th from Gaywang Dorji 3 minutes later.
The match gathered more momentum and pace thereafter. Just as the hopes of Druk Paows seemed completely dashed, Choki Dorji scored the surprising first goal for his team in the 55th minute. But the invincible Gap Tshering came back to drive home the fifth goal for Layog FC in the 59th minute with style. After nine minutes, he headed in another goal bringing Druk Paows to their knees.
Druk Paows’ Tshering Dargay brought a glimmer of hope for his team when in the 77th minute he sent the saving grace into the net.
From the matches played so far, Karma Thinly from Foreinet’s leads the score sheet with 12 goals followed by Binod Tamang from Zionlion with 9 goals. Binod still has a match to play.
Today, Cstains will face Lopens in the pool D. Tomorrow, in the first match, Raven FC will play Chang FC under pool A and Thuenlam will face Raven Builders under pool B in the second match.
Sixteen teams are playing the tournament now.
Spectators say Gangjung have so far emerged as the best team.
The final will be played on January 1, 2012.
