Commemorative archery tournament ends

Pemagatshel: Gangseng, a local archery team, emerged victorious in this year’s National Day commemorative archery tournament in Pemagatshel which concluded on December 20.

Organized by the Archery Association of Pemagatshel Dzongkhag, the five-day tournament was organised to pay tribute to Bhutan’s monarchs on the National Day.

Six local teams with five players each participated in the league-cum-knockout tournament.

Gangseng defeated the other finalist Thridunyim winning all four games of seven points or ku in 25 rounds. The winners took home 24 inches LCD flat television set each, while the runners-up settled for 22 inches LCD television set each.

The third prize went to Five Red Bulls. Its team members took home a washing machine each.

Besides, there were many individual cash prizes.

The prize for the highest double hit (dobji), which is Nu 2,000, went to Drungtsho Tashi Wangchuk of Five Red Bulls. Tshering Wangchuk of Shongzor team won the same amount in cash for hitting the highest karey on the bull’s eye.

Namgangla of Thridunyim won Nu 3,000 for one day highest hit. Drangpon Wangchuk Drukpa of the winning team won Nu 2,000 award for the man of the match. Tashi Gyeltshen of team Five Brothers was declared the player of the tournament. He won a cash prize of Nu 2,000.

On the same day, Dorji Wangchuk, a local businessman, was formally appointed as the secretary of the dzongkahg archery association with another businessman as his assistant.
