Bhutanese in regional film festival

Bhutan is the focus country of the South Asian Film Festival (SAFF) which began yesterday in Goa, India.

Bhutan is represented by a seven-member team headed by Motion Picture Association of Bhutan (MPAB) general secretary, Sherab Gyeltshen. The other representatives are directors Rigzang, Chencho Dorji and Tshering Wangyal , actors Tandin Bidha and Cencho Dorji and a media person.

Highland Girl, Yeethro Lhamo and Sha Dha Simo will represent the Bhutanese film industry after Bardho and Shhh…Galuya Malap failed to make it.

Representatives of film industries from all the South Asian countries are taking part in the film festival.

In its 6th year, the festival will screen more than 50 films from all the eight South Asian countries in genres like classic, short, documentary and mainstream films.

The main focus of the event will be to promote peace and harmony in the region by uniting nations together through the mode of cinema.

The festival is organized by South Asia Foundation in association with Entertainment Society of Goa and Kala Academy Goa. It is sponsored by the state government of Goa and co-sponsored by Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

In addition to screening of films, a series of side events have been planned with the aim to promote cinema and traditional Goan arts and crafts.

The festival will conclude on September 18.
