Bhutan Star ends with fewer votes
January 6, 2012Dorji Wangchuk from Trongsa drove away a Maruti Swift car last week from Bhutan Star season 3. Tshering Tashi, who came second, took home a Maruti ALTO car. Phutsho Wangmo got a motor bike for the third position.
According to the organizer of the show, Nedup Dorji, the show didn’t do as well as the second season. He said hosting the show cost him about Nu 1.8 million.
“In terms of votes, season 2 did much better,” he said.
Nedup Dorji will soon organise another singing show – Little Stars.
In the meanwhile, he is contemplating on doing Bhutan Star season 4 with a promise of something different.
The top six contestants of season 3 will be offered music contracts if they are willing to take up.
Meanwhile, the winner of the last season, Tshering Penjor from Mongar, who was a truck driver, is still driving a truck.
Nedup Dorji said Tshering Penjor was offered a music contract and a chance to be a judge in season 3, but he refused.
Dorji Wangchuk, who works in Bank of Bhutan, said he is very excited about the title win. However, he said he will continue with his present job.
“If Bhutan had opportunities for singers like in other countries, I would have gladly pursued a career in singing,” he said.
Phuntsho Wangmo said she feels like a big star already. She sings more rigsar songs today than she did before she took part in Bhutan Star. She wants to share her experiences with her friends back in school.
“I will participate actively in school cultural programmes and help organize other co-curricular activities,” she said.
The winners of the fourth and fifth positions of the show received a Honda bicycle each with cash prizes. The winner of the sixth position took a laptop with a cash prize of Nu 35, 000.
