PM meets Srilankan counterpart

Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay who is on an official visit to Sri Lanka on the invitation of H.E Maithripala Sirisena, President of Sri Lanka was presented with a guard of honor at the Presidential Secretariat. 19 Gun salutes were fired.

After the guard of honor the two leaders and their delegations sat down for a bilateral meeting where Lyonchhen conveyed the good wishes of H.M the King and People of Bhutan to the government and people of Sri Lanka. The meeting discussed matters related to Education, Health, Tourism etc. Lyonchhen also thanked the president for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegations.

After the meeting Lyonchhen and the President witnessed the signing of Memorandum of Understanding for Foreign Office Consultation between the Acting Foreign Secretary and the Foreign Secretary of Sri Lanka.

To Honor the visit of Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay to Sri Lanka the President hosted a state banquet for Lyonchhen and Aum Tashi Doma.

The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe also hosted a lunch for Lyonchhen and his delegation.

Lyonchhen also made a brief visit to the Parliament house and the Prime Minister’s Office.

Later in the evening Lyonchhen was called on by Hon. Sarath Amunugama, Minister of Higher Education and Research of Sri Lanka. The meeting discussed matters related to Bhutanese students studying in Sri Lanka. Currently there are about 200 Bhutanese studying medicin in three top universities in Sri Lanka. Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, also called on Lyonchhen.
