PCAL meet Team 2010 today

The annual Penden Cement Authority Limited Archery Foundation Cup, which started on January 18 in Gomtu with 15 teams from Thimphu, Paro, Samtse, Sibsoo, Pasakha and Phuntsholing, is in full swing.

PCAL team will play against Team 2010 from Sibsoo today. On January 26, Earthquake from Phuntsholing took on Lhaki Cement. The first game saw Earthquake leading the game by a vast margin. Earth Earthquake was 24 when Lhaki was 8. But in the next two rounds, Lhaki players displayed a majestic comeback to wrap up the game 25-24.

The match continued for the second day. Earthquake won the second 25-12 points. The match went for the decider and it was Lhaki who came victorious with 25-12. The entry fee for the knockout tournament has been reduced from Nu 10,000 to Nu 8,000 a team.
According to Kinzang Dorji, the coordinator, this was done to attract more teams. Free lunch is also todayserved to that end, he said. Statues and other religious items will be awarded as prizes. “We are following the Bhutan Archery Federation’s rules and regulations,” said the coordinator.

The purpose for choosing the archery as the game among other sports for the foundation cup was to popularize the sport in the southern districts. “Archery is the national sport and the foundation cup aims to promote the game as we celebrate the company’s foundation,” said the coordinator.
