I voted no despite knowing that it is individual’s choice and constitute an individual’s fundamental right because an individual’s right has to be within a socially acceptable parameter.
So long as homosexuality remains within the two individuals and not flount their relationship publicly there is no harm. Same is applicable to lesbians because we are brought up in a society based on what is morally correct and not on what constitute an individual’s right.
i agree with wad laygman said…..As long as it wont affect the public or it happens in a private sphere, its not an issue
Love is beautyful no matter between whom!!!!
We cannot accept homosexuality. It is not in our culture and Druk Yul has been able to stay safe from the menace that many countries are struggling to get fixed. We cannot be even sympathetic to homosexuals (don’t take it as a discrimation) because it is not natural. However, hard homosexuals may try the consequences of relationship between a woman and man is far meaningful and happy than the homosexual relationship.
Homosexuality is the beginning of destruction. Do not take it as a revolution because it cannot take the support of any hitherto developed technology to explain its superiority over the conventional hetero sexual relationship. Being a Buddhist nation we cannot afford to go to that extent of spiritual barrenness as nature and the environment are our guiding principles.
The Team EcomBhutan votes NO .
i can’t believe it, is homosexuality really a big issue in our nation..(may be it’s happening but i don’t know)
well if we say from religious point of view i don’t think we would accept homosexual,
but there are many more thing about it.
i even heard that in some countries the government is accepting homosexuality just because to control their population.
it’s hard to comment on this issue.
This is the last thing I can think of but I guess its not a shame anymore and I am against the opinion. We have more women than men, why the question of homos but again it depends on the persons choices
sexuality is not a part of culture, it never was, it’s a part of an individual.
change is inevitable, we have to accept it. nothing is natural anymore, to build concrete building is not natural, to fly in an aeroplane is not natural… men made things to make life easier. so what if a man/ woman’s life becomes easier that way, let it be.
as far as the religious point of view, i don’t think it mentions anything about one’s sexuality. maybe other religions do but not buddhism.
it will happen whether the authorities like it or not, so instead of discriminating them we can and should accept. they are humans afterall and they have the right to choose their partners.
it will only enhance the GNH concept
only if Darwin was alive today to write a theory on the evolution of the human race and particularly on sexualiity hah but no kidddin’……..so my comment, i dont give a shit..infact i think these gays and lesbians are the future whether you all homophobes like it or not. World is constantly changing and everything with it including our long treasured cultures and all the other stuffs with it. To be perfectly clear, i aint one but i respect individuals regardless of their sexual preference cos i dont think that sexuality is a choice when you come to this world, its genetics or as our good fate would say – mere chance of beliefs)
Therefore, FYI to all the readers, leave this matter to time, dont get your hands dirty cos some homophobe decides to strike on……get smart and beat it!
i see that quite alot of people has voted NO, HELLO this is the 21st century. Every one has got their own ritesto choose what they want. I think some people need to GROW UP and leave them alone and do what they want and not bother them.
AND yes im a very straight person and i have NO problem in letting them in our society.
Dearsir,
It is a unatural way of enjoyment. it sets in undesirable style of living in society. It has been observed that it may lead to criminal activities in society in some cases.
If anyone can find a buddhist scripture that says that homosexuality is less natural than heterosexuality, quote it. i don’t think there is one.
i FULLY agree with what Leon has said that yes! its 21st century now………we shouldn’t bother of what other are doing and what other people are saying……leave them.live and let other also live………
who decides what is morally correct in a society…its just a difference of perspective….if we look through their eyes then may be we are the abnormal or the OTHER…..well getting back to the point homosexuality is not degeneration of human kind but part of the larger evolutionary process…..change is inevitable….if our ancestors had rejected change then we would still be apes….
For me, it is not an issue! Rather i would say, i “don’t care”…..let it be individual’s choice…..Its rather better when not discussed at this juncture…if the numbers become alarming and if it all becomes nuisance to the society, then probably, we should discuss and get the public view.
You know what i would do…keep the homosexual guys infront and shoot at them with the AK-47, 1 shot 1 dead. This is rediculous man. How could you bring up such topic of poll in your website!
sex is zero….it is just the clash of two bodies which result in orgasm or a feeling and it is not more than that……we have test tube babies and all….and it is very right of any individual to choose who he or she wants…none of our concern…..how can homosexuality be a concern to the society…and to those who regard it is nuisance or doesnt support on religious grounds i would say that all those scriptures and stuff were all written by a nerd who took on his stand…well if that was written by homo then he wud have said men and women relation is sin…..well i am not a homosexual but just felt that it is okay with me unless those guys who aint in favor should restrict me saying this and restrict ones freedom or right,,,,,,haha…welcome homosexuality
hey TEXT….i dont even need AK -47,,, how dare you shoot someone when it is not in your like…i dont like when you said but i dont say i want to kill you or something like that for what you said,,,,,,whateva i know you dont own any AK47 or maybe you got a toy gun son…..so little fella cool…..
Going by some comments, it looks like homos and lesbians are a part of evolutionary process. This is misleading. Remember sex has got something more than clashes of bodies to produce orgasms. Sex is primarily for procreation. All living being indulge in opposite sex to procreate. It is only we humans, the fools who, who derive pleasure or try to procreate by indulging in the same sex.
Here I don’t question individual’s right. Yes, everyone has a right to ones way of life but indulging in a same sex is unnatural. Remember, eyebrows will be raised if a gay couple or lesbian walk down the street arm in arm.
Buddhism is the love of wisdom ,one of the Supreme philosophies of awakening . A set of teachings propagated by the Buddha and enlightened beings so we may use it as a means of guiding principles in order to come the realization of the true nature of all things in order for us to live a happy and noble life. But with the profound understanding that our internal motivation to practice Buddhism should be to benefit all sentient beings … Do not use Buddhism or any other religion to judge some one else’s sexuality ,, instead dear friends , practice , in order to transform your Hate, Greed and Delusion in to Love, Generosity and Truth .. In other words , be mindful of your own mind …
Homosexuality..muh..,I should say yes. coz the future of individual lies in the hand of individual decision. It is very simple to understand the concept. Example, everyone of us is alike to one another isn’t it.? Likewise, every individual has the right to live and no matter what is the circumstances behind.I personally think accepting homosexualism would be wise to know someone correctly.
“Live and let other live”
By going through your lines, it tells me: Life itself is impermanent and so all the habibits including sex. Let individuals decide. We need not suggest or dictate. Interested people will choose what they like. May be better if we take care and watch our own interests and habbits
Whenever a topic like sex comes out for discussion there are so many people who tend to send their comments.
Remember Dear Friends this is in the context of Bhutan. There may be homos and lesbians and if they ca be given the right to marry in the aters of our chortens it will be a great boon to Bhutan as we have a hard time controlling the population. We don’t have to keep people telling of the population explosion and unemployment. BHutan needs to cut down population growth like in the early 1990s there had been a woderful drop in population thereby increasing our GNH. We need small families. Those who are gays and lesbians should organize themselves and have mass marriage programs and support them. Homos will be a strong force in terms of nation building as we need many hardy workers for the current infrastructural development. As they will not have family life (children) they can be available for works at odd hours too and contribute to nation building.
Therefore like in other countries we must account the actual number of lesbians and gays and get the best out of them. When they have worked and contributed a lot we could start homes for the aged and that will create employment oppertunities. We must create societies of the lesbians and homos in East, west, north and southern Bhutan. Sherubtse College and all the monasti schools muct educate that all human beings are equal and marriage is not god made but man made. In pursuit of happiness Bhutan should allow its citizens the proper use of their body. As it is well said in Drukpa Kague that we should fo all the good that we can and never think of anything bad.
I look forward to the setting up PINK BHUTAN and host a large number of programs in support of population control.
Allowing lesbians and homosexuals to pick up the partners of their choice also cuts the cases of domestic violence.
Bhutan has from its ancient times practiced polyandry. This is having multiple husbands by women. This places women in a higher platform than in other countries.
Now we must recognize homosexuals and make it a law that there can be no discrimination between heterosexuals and homosexuals. It has been the age old tradition of Bhutan to allow every group to practice their culture and tradition and thus Brokpas and Lgaps have been taken good care and thus it is time to take care of the Homos and Lesbians. It would be best to set up an appropriate place for the cultural development of the Homos or it may be called the museum of homosexuals or the center for homosexual studies.
I vote for the Homos and if the government shows any discrimination the government will fail.
So cheer up homos because you are the ones who will help exemplify Bhutan’s tolerance and protection of minorities and a strong step for population control.
I VOTE YES AND HOPE TO SEE DRUK PINK SOCIETY.
Yeah…this is 21st century……but its sick …
no matter the world is facing new diseases like AIDS and unnatural things are happening all around the world…
I am QUEER, I am HERE, Get used to it!!!!!
there seems to be more ‘no’ than ‘yes’. this is disheartening, especially when knowing that educated people took part in this poll.
people in the villages would be more accepting of this than you all. all the while we were expecting education to broaden our minds,, it has done just the opposite.
disheartening and disgusting
when we hear of such problem it is more diheartening for the bhutanese citizens but still if it goes on then we must say that it is their pleasure for it. this 21 century has cameup with lots of cahsnges right from the dressing of youth. we have heard of homosexulity and seen those who are involved in the activities. these days our youth tries to act like the western youths. but it is all bullshit and disgusting….
lets get rid of it!!!!!
