Faces of Bhutan – Buddhism in the Land of the Thunder Dragon

21 January 2010

Nov 2009 – Nov 2010 issue

In a world first, a new magazine is taking the sacred spirituality of Bhutan to the rest of the world.

The magazine, Faces of Bhutan; Buddhism in the Land of the Thunder Dragon, is simultaneously published in two editions – a high quality glossy print edition for sale in bookshops around Bhutan and other parts of the world. But also, using the latest technology, it is being published as a digital magazine, able to be downloaded in every corner of the earth.

The magazine features some of Bhutan’s best writers – Dr Karma Ura, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, Mynak Trulku Rinpoche and a foreword by His Holiness the Je Khenpo.

There is a moving story about the Queen Grandmother’s very special relationship with Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, plus photos from her personal collection. Professor Bob Thurman writes that it is time Buddhism comes out of Bhutan’s monasteries and into the schools. There are features on Phallus worship, Taktsang and Bhutan’s dedicated nuns.

And much, much more.

The magazine, published by the Bhutan Observer, is out now.
