2010 for children of gods
25 February 2010
Buddhist astrologers say 2010 will produce the best of children. SONAM PELDEN finds out more.
2009, the Earth Female Ox year, saw Bhutanese parents religiously planning to have babies as the year of mewa gumar (ninth number of destiny) was considered the best year to have babies. This belief, however, is misplaced, according to Buddhist astrologers.
Lopoen Singay Dorji, an astrologer from Pangrizampa School of Astrology in Thimphu, said that the years 2008 and 2010 are, in fact, better years to have babies. He said mewa one, six and eight are considered good.
Mewa is originally a Chinese word which means number. According to Buddhist astrology, years are divided into nine mewas (nine spiritual divas or marks of predestination).
Mewa gumar is a moderate mewa, according to astrology. Therefore, last year was a moderate year for childbirths, and not as auspicious as many people thought. However, children born with mewa gumar will be prosperous, and they won’t have to depend on anyone for anything.
The year of Rat, 2008, was the year of mewa chikar (lucky number one), the mewa of Sangay (Lord Buddha). This year, the year of Tiger bearing mewa gayker (lucky number eight) will produce children of gods, according to astrologers. They will be bright, proactive healthy, kind-hearted, short-tempered and spendthrift.
Children born in the year of Tiger will be generally magnetic, passionate and grand. But they will be indecisive and stubborn. Children of the Tiger year will, however, be truly honest and entertaining.
Lopoen Singay Dorji had earlier told the Observer that the year would be good for people planning to start a family. Children, especially boys born this year, will have admirable characters like strength, determination and power. However, a large number of children will become orphans either by losing their parents to death or divorce.
Animals like yaks will see more harm than people, he said. “In the beginning of the second or third month of the Bhutanese calendar, the country will face a small crisis.”
“There are possibilities of fire in western Bhutan, conflict in the east and food security and poverty in the south,” he said.
Law enforcement department may become slightly busier than the previous year. “Even though crime rate may remain more or less the same, there will be an increase in robbery cases,” said the Lopoen.
This year will be lucky for people born in the Rabbit years, 1987 and 1963. “Overall, it is a good year,” said Lopoen Singye.
