RUB delegation visits AIT
8 February 2010
Delegates from the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) led by Gajel Lhundup, Director of Department of Planning and Resources, visited the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand and sought greater cooperation and help in capacity building from AIT.
The delegation met the AIT president, Said Irandoust in January and expressed their keen desire to engage with AIT. AIT has already trained a significant number of resource persons from Bhutan. However, a formal agreement on partnership with AIT has been lacking. The delegation from Bhutan also visited other countries including Sri Lanka seeking similar partnerships.
AIT president assured the Bhutanese delegation of AIT’s commitment towards capacity building in the region. “AIT would be very happy to work with you as a partner,” he said. He added that AIT would continue to play a leading role and would like to involve other international agencies in the partnership as well.
The delegation from the RUB included Kezang Chhodar, Director of Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic, Kaylzang Tshering, Director of Samtse College of Education, Lhato Jamba, Director of Gaeddu College of Business Studies, Tshering Wangdi, Dean of Student Affairs at Sherubtse College, and Thubten Gyatso, Director of Paro College of Education.
Earlier, they were welcomed to AIT by Fazle Karim, in-charge, AIT Extension, and were introduced to AIT Extension by Voravate Chonlasin. Dr Pritam K Shreshta, Head, External Resources and Communications Office (ERCO), provided an overview presentation of AIT’s activities, academics, and programmes.
Niramol Ponvilai, Head Administrative and Technical Support Unit of AIT Extension, coordinated the trip. AIT Extension has been a leading resource for imparting training to resource persons from Bhutan and the visit was organized by AIT Extension.
Later in the afternoon, they engaged in a discussion on “Management and Operation of Media and Communications Unit” with the Media and Communications Unit (MCU) team led by Shawn Kelly, Senior Media Specialist. This was followed by a discussion on “Management and Operation of the AIT Library” by Pranee Kiriyanant, Library Coordinator.
