The sixth batch of 42 students from Rigsum Institute of Information Technology & Management (RIIT&M) left for a 20-day industrial visit to south India on January 18.
The students are expected to learn overall development of integrated personality and leadership quality, While 33 students pursuing diploma in information technology and commercial accounting will visit sugar mills, textile mills, cement factories and some historical places in Kerela and Tamil Nadu, the eight others are on a three-month hotel management industrial training.
While in India, the students will also visit the SSM College of Science and Technology to study IT and commercial accounting and exchange cultural ideas. The principal of RIIT&M, Kesang Dorji, said such trips were organized in order for the students to get more exposure, knowledge and exchange cultural activities.
Apart from giving training, the institute strives to develop the students’ critical, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills. Seventy-five percent of the cost of the trip is borne by the institute while the rest is paid by students themselves.
RIIT&M, established in 1998, is the first certified higher educational institute in Bhutan offering post graduate diploma and certificate courses in various fields like commercial accounting, IT, financial management, investment management, import and export procedures, and hotel management. Currently, the institute has more than 750 students and 13 instructors.
