Class XII results out

The results of the 2009 Bhu­tan Higher Secondary Edu­cation Certificate Examina­tions (BHSEC) show a slight improvement. The aggregate pass percentage has risen by 0.82 points, from 85.60 per­cent in 2008 to 87.35 percent in 2009.

Out of 6,530 students who sat the examinations last De­cember, 603 students – 313 males and 290 females – failed.

Science students performed better than Commerce and Arts students. The pass per­centages of students in Sci­ence, Commerce and Arts are 93.46, 85.60 and 82.68 re­spectively.

Yeshey Samdrup of Mo­tithang HSS in Thimphu topped the Science stream with 90 percent. Thinley Dorji of Yangchenphu HSS in Thim­phu came second with 88 per­cent followed by Sonam Tsher­ing of Drugyel HSS in Paro and Depen Chhetri of Ugyen Academy in Punakha who scored 87.7 percent each.

Kelzang Wangmo of Gele­phu HSS in Sarpang topped the Commerce stream with 86 percent followed by Krish­na Prashad Nepal and Esther Karki of Ugyen Academy with 85.8 percent and 85.3 per­cent.

Langa Tenzin of Nangkhor HSS in Pemagatshel topped the Arts stream with 84 per­cent followed by Tshencho Wangdi of Ugyen Academy with 78.3 percent and Phut­sho Tashi of Nangkhor HSS with 76.8 percent.

From the Institute of Lan­guage and Culture Studies, 216 candidates appeared for the exams out of which 186 got through, and only two out of 21 candidates from Dzong­kha Language Institute failed.

Trashitse HSS in Wamrong achieved hundred percent pass results while Prince Nam­gyel Wangchuk Academy in

Zhemgang achieved the low­est pass percentage of 67.2.

The highest number of 603 students sat the exams from Kelki HSS followed by 471 from Ugyen Academy and 465 from Nima HSS in Thimphu.

Department of Adult and Higher Education will se­lect 163 top students for un­dergraduate scholarships in various fields under different funding schemes. A minimum of 55 percent mark in English is required to qualify for the scholarships.

There are 15 medical and 10 engineering slots.

The details of the BHSEC results will be available on www.education.gov.bt and www.druknet.bt from this af­ternoon.

Students can apply for cler­ical recheck of their results from February 1 to 26 by pay­ing Nu 300 a subject but only to the maximum of two sub jects. The results of the first batch of recheck will be pub­lished in the papers on Febru­ary 19 and those of the sec­ond batch will be published on March 5.

Twenty-six government and seven private higher sec­ondary schools appeared for the BHSEC examinations.

Meanwhile, the results of 2009 class X exams will be out by mid February
