Who said only live EPL and champions league football matches drew hundreds of Bhutanese before television sets? The live telecast of the second coronation archery match final between Drukpa and Zimdra on BBS TV saw hundreds of people glued to television sets. Besides hundreds of spectators at the Changlingmithang archery range, hundreds of people at home, workplaces, shops, bars and restaurants spent two days watching the big match live on the screen.

Phuba, 32, a farmer from Punakha, said he watched the match on television amid paddy harvest work. “With the developing modern technology in our country, we can sit and watch what is happening far away,” he said. “I really enjoyed the match, thanks to television,” he said, adding that he was passionate about archery.

Office goers also enjoyed the live match leaving their works aside. According to an avid archery fan, although the match was long, he thoroughly enjoyed watching it live.

A bar owner in Thimphu said he did a brisk business as people poured into his bar to watch the match. He said that it was encouraging to see the youth watch the match with zeal and enthusiasm although most of them are today said to have been addicted to modern games.
