Bhutanese bodybuilders will be participating in the 6th South Asian Bodybuilding Championship in Varanasi, India, from April 9 to 12.
The Body Building and Weightlifting Federation has selected 4 members to participate in the championship funded by the Bhutan Olympics Committee.
There are 20 members in the club, each paying Nu 300 a month as a membership fee.
Bhutanese bodybuilders participated in a championship for the first time in Bejing, China. Then, they participated in Doha, Qatar, and in Bali Beach Game in Indonesia. Their participation in the South Asian championship will be the fourth appearance abroad.
B B Tamang, instructor of the federation, said that the number of members was increasing. “We have almost all the equipment and the membership is open to all interested individuals,” he said, adding that they had shifted from the Swimming Pool complex to a new room in Changlingmithang Stadium.
“I am excited that I got the opportunity to participate in the championship,” said Tek Badhur. He said that he was training for at least two hours a day and hoped that it would serve him well. He started bodybuilding five years ago.
Body Building and Weightlifting Federation was established in 2003.
