They are already getting Nu. 63,000 a month including allowances. In addition they get Nu. 800 per day as allowance while on tour to their constituencies on top of Nu. 1 lakh discretionary allowance for Soelras per year.
Isn’t this enough? Consider that many people in Bhutan live with less than Nu. 3000 a month. And village Tshogpas still get only Nu. 1500 a month as salary. MPs should take the whole country and people into perspective and not only think of themselves alone. This makes us lose faith in democracy itself.
MPs should ask what they can do for the Country, but they are asking what country could do for them. Now we the public are realizing that they needs to be fed like pigs to work for the country.
Although the MPs are elected by the people, they are not doing their home works properly, leave alone a pay raise, they don’t deserve to be people’s representative. Because they talk for hours without any fruitful outcome and when they talk about salary raise, they do it without a whim.
What a democracy!!!!
i am just upset!
i think their pay shud not be incresed..if so they shud hv broght much changes across the country side…how come des poor siphons with low thinking make such decision..i guess they really sucking bhutan…
haha they do posesses big bogs…….a paunch like australian pigs for storing money……or else do they hv salty pockets…..or else do they hv pocket made of syntex tank.
haha des thugs making fun of democracy…….so people of bhutan come n act together to chastise these bandits out of parliament..haha just my view

Oh! What a shameless for them to demand pay hike.our country is going through difficult finincial situation.really our mps are gunda.
bhutan is a poor country, much depended on donation from rich countries, but the money contributed by the poor people of the rich country is directly given to the rich people of a poor country. what is another reason to have salary hike of these heavy self concerned mp. it makes me shiver and anguish and many citizen feel. stop, otherwise people might have to pay heavy prize?
Mps are already given a good amount and they are the ones who declared that they would work for the people so why ask for more money now?
they are being so selfish….first they wanted patangs, then they wanted their cars to have a different sign as to finger that that car belonged to an MP and now more money…are they serving people or fooling them. when it is an important issue they hardly discuss it much but when it comes to issues related to themselves they prolong it so much…
people should really think twice before giving votes next time….good that i didnt vote
Gross national happiness is main motive of our tiny Bhutanese country ,,so as we can see there is many youth unemployed so why don’t our new government to bring up some new step and solved those problem ,,whole assembly session is about the payment of MP,i am not saying that nu.50,000 is high amount, they deserve more than this as compare to other country ..but plz think as whole the amount that u are going to increase can provide a salary to many people if we all can know how to think and go together,,we know our government is already a very big but than we can expand it further ,,for eg see the city of Thimphu very dirty so we can form some new committee apart from municipal to keep city GREEN ,lastly i just want to say plz employed some new employee on money which u all are going to increase ,,,thanks for reading.
As a civil servant Pay hike for any employee is welcoming indication but i believe these things are done with the countrys economy status Are they (mps) not over ambitious building their own super comfort when the nation is running under calamities turmoil and it is more like Giving PINCHFUL and taking HANDFUL…….. Hear country men hear the deeds of our elected leaders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If MPs are struggling with Nu. 60,000 plus then how about others…for example if civil servants go for tour then they get Nu. 500/ per day. With Nu. 500 you can pay for hotel only and rest for three meals they pay from theirn pocket…and some civil servants are getting only Nu. 300 per day..what about them? and drivers are getting Nu. 150 per day…with that money they don’t even get one good meal…so where to sleep and what to eat rest of the time???
Have MPs thought about that??? When they raise their salary its important for them to look back and see what they really have done till now….I am simnply up set…
I think it was important for the MP’s salary to be fixed. But my question would be why at secretary’s level? why not dzongda’s level? why not lesser given the fact that these people had actually volunteered to serve people. I think 30,000 plus itself is more than what they deserve. After two years of having been elected, how many people actually spoke on the floor of the parliament? Peg this with their salary- they are already overpaid.
Wow!!! NC and NA members agreed for the first time to safeguard their interest. isn’t this amazing?
Another issue is that, these bunch already gets so many allowances including vehicle mtc. Everyone knows that the new vehicles owned privately will not incur mtc for atleast three years.
Now Nu one lakh soelra. What is this? who ensures that soelras were paid and how is this accounted? Thousands of people live under poverty while elected people could be pocketing soelra amount as well.
If the money they are being paid belongs to the people of Bhutan, surely these elected people should instead be exploring ways to enable the nation’s money to trickle down to the most needed people instead of treating themselves. Surely this is a disgusting thing happening. Pity that in one of the panel discussion, the MPs desperately tried saving their faces but in vain.
The whole issue came in as a bad bad taste to everyone.
Even if we raise our dissatisfactions and sentiments here, there is hardly any change in the decision that the parliamentarians make. This is the clear sign of the weakness of media in the democractic process. When half of our country’s population lives below poverty line, why are they trying to increase the salary of MPs, which would ultimately broaden the income disparity between haves and have-nots.
logically NO, Our country is developing in a rapid pace n that sounds good but at the same time, some how the human instinct of mine, it is transcinding to any other unsuccessful country at a large scale i.e., rich is geting richer and poor is geting poorer. Though in large it seems we are doing good perhaps politically but from the point of Gross National Happiness we are loosing it, deep inside we
are poisoning our National Goal. At this moment we are either ignoring it or we dont see it because it is at its initial stage, very tiny. I know it cant be stop but m afraid if it is not too late to get it right. Our country is different in many aspects and we are not suppose to make the very same mistake like other country around because its not that they dont want to stop its just because its too late, the system simply dont allow. We are fresh and new, therefore, we have good chance to make it unique, fresh and best…….Sorry MPs u and many other empty stomachs, i know u cant give nothing so expect nothing which u dont deserve.
Our MP’s are RANG SANGAYs. They are there to serve their purpose, not their purpose of being MPs. Who is there that does not need money. while people who are paid less or equivalent to 3000/month could adjust for their living, why not they… they are paid more than 20 times, those who work more than them.
we do not get house allowance, car, nothing, still we are trying to adjust ourselves. PLZ. BE CONTAINED WITH WHAT U ARE PAID.
I really regret to vote for them.
Please think about people -who are paid low
– who doesn’t have job to live on (employment situation)
– cost of the disasters occurred
What could be the result, if the amount spend on their pay hike is being used in above.
We simply don’t have enough money to expend except for poverty reduction
i feel what they earn now is enough than raising because they earn sufficient salary. if govt. can kindly issued budget to gewog level, it would be grateful and thankful instead of thier raising salary. if govt. keeps raising thier salary, i think they will also keep requesting increasement of thier salary that is what human desires it is.
They should not think of themselves as they have already promised to the people that they would do every thing that our poor people need, during their election. They are paid high and still they need more……think about others who sustain with Nu. 3000 a month. We vote for us and not for their belly.
actual expenditure and income of MPS should be appraised corresponding to the exsiting pay scale of their respective counterpart (civil servant). Only then the decision to increase the salary of the Mps should be decided. The additional allowances the MPs are getting should be monitored through a proper channel and shall be recorded timely so that no misuse of government fund takes place. The ceiling and flooring of the allowance as per the needs should be imposed on them. Salaries and allowances to every Mps shouldn’t be necessarily the same as the requirement and needs of every 20 dzongkhags varies. In a nutshell, an autonmous monitoring devision should be established to look after the matter regularly.
It is sad to hear that our MPs have increased their salary by them self then there is no need of pay commission to set up in BHUTAN if they can do what they like to do regarding their salary with their power. I have big doubts that our MPs are not enough with what they paid just now, and increasing their salary with their power but I think they have to follow the rule of kingdom of Bhutan. I have two questions to all the MPs:
1. Why it is not enough with current salary and allowances?
2. Do you want to keep the increase salary to party fund as you have lots of loans in million to pay back to banks and etc.?
Please Dasho think nicely….
their salary rise is like the rain in water….they got big ballies….their condomic ballies would never be filled…..so give them a rise along with all the civil servants….
thats would be solution…to fill their bally…
