Shopping gold and diamond in Siliguri

It is weekend in Siliguri. Many Bhutanese are seen swarming different shops in the city. But of late, the Tanishq jewellery shop at City Plaza has become a favourite haunt for many Bhutanese shoppers.
Ever since India’s largest jewellery brand, Tanishq, was re-launched in Siliguri on March 28, many Bhutanese have started visiting it.
Showroom Manager, Sumanta said a lot of Bhutanese visit during weekends. He said Bhutanese loved to buy diamond jewelleries. Few bought 24-karat plain gold coins.
“Since it is a Tata product, people can trust the product, even with closed eyes,” said a customer at the showroom.
The 2000 square feet, fully air-conditioned showroom at Sevoke Road offers latest designs of necklaces, bracelets, earrings, bangles in elite gold to its customers.
Started in 1995, Tanishq a the jewelry business group of Titan Industries Ltd. promoted by the Tata group, is India’s most respected and widely diversified business conglomerate, according to the Showroom Manager.
He said that 116 stores spread across India offered its customers with the jewelleries of their taste. Tanishq has earned a reputation of bringing innovative designs that suit the needs of women in India and the region.
“We serve according to the flavour of the people of the region.” In the North-East, there are three showrooms. Guwahati and Agartala have one each.
Customers can also exchange old gold for new designs. In July and August, they will offer a scheme where the customers will be given one-carat gold extra on exchange with their old products. If a customer comes with 19-karat gold, it will be evaluated as 20-karat, said Sumanta.
Tanishq in Siluguri issues Anuttara card, where 3.5 percent of making charge on plain gold and 1.5 percent on total value of diamond is stored, to its customers who purchase jewelleries worth Rs 35,000 and more. Customers can redeem the points and avail discount in the next purchase.
Tanishq also provides various other schemes during religious occasions with special discounts.
