Viewers choose different artistes

28 March 2009

Out of 10 categories for the viewers’ choice awards, only three went to the same artistes who won the film awards in the seventh national film festival organised by the Motion Pictures Association of Bhutan (MPAB).

Singye Galem was voted the best film and Tshering Wangyel, the best director. Chencho Dorji won the award for the best male lead role and Karma Choden, the best female lead role.

Kinley Gyeltshen again took away the award for the best music lyricist. Gyem Dorji was voted the best actor in comic role. Chimi Wangchuk got the award for the best child artist and Tauchu Rabgay, the best actor in a negative role.

Namgay Jiks got the award for the best male playback singer and Dechen Pem, the best female playback singer.

A total of 13911 votes were received from the viewers. The best director got 5694 votes which was the highest. The best actor in a negative role got 3389 votes. The best female actor got 1816 votes followed by the best male singer with 1175 votes.

The best actor in a comic role got 915 votes and the best male actor got 500 votes. The best music lyricist got 331 votes. The best female singer got 46 votes and the best child artist got 45 votes.

“I firstly want to thank my producer, cast and the entire crew. The award is dedicated to the best lights man in the film Industry, Sonam Kuku who recently passed away. I am thankful to all the voters and the organisers,” said Tshering Wangyel, the best voted director.

He said that it made him feel great yet he needed to work hard to get the jury award too.

Yeshey Tshering, the producer of the best film, Singye Galem, said that it was great to win an award because in the earlier award, although the film was nominated in 19 different categories, it did not win.

The viewers’ choice awards ceremony was held at the Youth Development Fund complex in Thimphu on March 21. Let alone the audience, there were not many people from the film industry.

“The organisers did not get a very good support but it was a good start, “said Tshering Wangyel.

Yeshey Tshering, an executive member of the MPAB, said that the award show was very good for the film industry and the youngsters who organised it should be supported. “I am positive that they will get more support next year,” he said.
