Anoj Chhetri, a two-and-half-year-old boy became the 100th customer of the Maruti Suzuki A-Star car on May 22. The lucky customer received a digital rice cooker from Bhutan Zimdra Automobiles, the dealer of Maruti Suzuki A-Star in Bhutan.
Anoj’s father, an engineer in a private firm in Phuentsholing, said he was planning to buy a car and his son was always after A-star when its advertisement came on TV. He said he bought the basic A-star car LXI as is the best car with low maintenance cost and high mileage.
A-Star was launched on February 24 in Bhutan with three variants – LXI, VXI, ZXI – that cost Nu 36,9550, Nu 39,7065, and Nu 42,9860 respectively. The car has crossed the record booking in three months. Till today, over 150 bookings have been made for this car.
Meanwhile, the sale of Maruti’s popular brand in Bhutan, Alto, has not gone down as feared. Zimdra’s Sales Manager in Phuentsholing, Tshewang, said Alto is purchased by taxi operators and senior people while the A-star is purchased by young people and fresh graduates.
