First film magazine ready

9 November 2009

Bhutan’s first film and entertainment magazine, Druk Trowa, will hit the book stands in Thimphu on Monday.
Druk Trowa will be a biannual magazine this year but starting next year it will be a quarterly magazine. The purpose of the magazine is to promote the film industry and to create a stronger interaction between the people in the film industry and the viewers.
The 136-page magazine has exclusive interviews with popular Bhutanese actors, a special feature on the 8th National Film Award, pull-out pictures of Bhutanese actors and a variety of articles.
The editor of the magazine, Yangchen Dukpa, said that 65 percent of the magazine is based on the fledging film industry while the rest is on other social issues. The magazine also gives glimpses of Thimphu city and features some of the good places to eat in the capital.
She said that the next issue would also include sports.
A ccording to Yangchen, the magazine is educative and would generate interest in foreigners and Bhutanese alike. “This is to give due recognition to the people who deserve it,” said Yangchen.
The colourful magazine with a lot of pictures is worth Nu 100. Druk Trowa is a work of three people, but all the articles are written by Yangchen herself.
The magazine does not have an editorial team and contributors at the moment. Druk Trowa is an undertaking of Wisdom Pictures.
The magazine would be useful to people who know little about the film industry in the country. It will introduce the reader to the film fraternity.

It is great to see bhutanese coming up with great ideas. Hope it will be a great success. GREAT job you people. And i don’t think our actors are emotionless or un skilled. I think they are doing petty good. If one think the actors are bad, why don’t you give it a try and see how you stand!!!..change your mentality and stop discouraging.
