We Need You…

26 January 2009

The People's King. This is the photo we will re-create using thousands of photos of his loyal subjects.

The People's King. This is the photo we will re-create using thousands of photos of his loyal subjects.

To celebrate the birthday of His Majesty, ‘The People’s King’, on February 21, 2009, the Bhutan Observer invites all his loyal subjects to join us in creating a very special commemorative poster.

To celebrate this glorious occasion we will create a unique poster from thousands of photos of Bhutanese faces and we need you to send us your photos. They can be group photos, individual photos, graduation photos, baby photos, school photos, photos of yourself with the King and passport photos. We are also happy to receive your favourite shots of lhakhangs, dzongs, rivers, animals, mountains, towns, streets, even your home. They can be of your favourite activity – playing archery or football. All photos are welcome.

Please send them by post, drop them into our office in Thimphu or email them to us. Ring your family and friends in the most remote corners of our glorious Kingdom and get them to join in the fun. We want this poster to represent ALL the people of Bhutan.

A nd please be quick. We need your photos by the end of January to create this very special poster of our King. Up close you will be able to see the individual photos. Stand a few feet back and you will see only the King, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, ‘The People’s King’.

This special, magical poster will be presented to his Majesty, on behalf of all his people, and then made available for sale across the kingdom, wherever Bhutan Observer is sold. It will be printed on high quality glossy paper, twice the size of this newspaper page you are reading, for you to keep forever. This is a unique event. Don’t miss the chance to be part of it.

How this is done

This image is just to show you what we intend to do. Our poster will be created from Bhutanese images, using the photos you send. We will attempt to use every photo sent to us, at least once, sometimes more than once. Photos may be cropped to fit the proportion needed. Some photos may not be able to be used at all, due to technical requirements. But we will do our best. (Please note that it will not be possible to return any photos. They will become the property of the newspaper.)

Tips for photos

We need lots of head shots, but can use full length shots also. If you are taking photos especially, please keep group shots tight or outer people may be cropped out. Any colour background is suitable, in fact we encourage a variety of background colours, specially yellow. The final poster will be made from thousands of photos, so while each photo will be easily recognizable up close, they won’t show a lot of detail.

Where to send

PHOTO PRINTS – Please post or deliver to Bhutan Observer, P O Box 1112, Norzin Lam, Thimphu. DIGITAL PRINTS – Minimum size 375 x 500 pixels. Best formats are JPG, PNG or BMP. (If you are using a “compressed” format such as JPG please don’t compress it below 65%.)

E mail your photo as an attachment to lobzangdorji@bhutanobserver.com.bt

Deliver them on a CD or bring in on a USB memory stick to our Thimphu city office on Norzin Lam, opposite Tashi Taj Hotel, during business hours before January 30.

first of all…let me ask you……did you get the Royal Permission from His Majesty the King or from His Majesty’s Secretariat before you use His Majesty’s photo like that? This is a serious question. You can not do whatever you like with His Majesty’s “kupar” and stain the sanctity of His Majesty like that. If you did not get any permission to use His Majesty’s photo like that, Bhutan Observer can be sued and Lobzang Dorji will go to jail.

    Think well.
