Battery and molestation

12 January 2009

The accused in the recent case of molestation of a 16- year-old baby-sitter has now been charged at the court with additional charges of battery.

The case, which occurred in Zilukha, was filed to the district court in Thimphu on January 5. “She was battered after she had warned her employer that she would inform his wife,” said our source.

The source said that the medical evidence established the fact that the victim was battered on December 11. “On the day of the incident, she called the wife. After this, the husband battered her,” the source said.

The victim had accused the employer of molesting her in Phuentsholing after he had booked a single-room. During the interrogation, the employer admitted to having ‘touched her shoulder’ but denied the charge of molestation. He also admitted to hitting her.

The source revealed that the victim’s father was an alcoholic and her mother had re-married. “The girl was victimised for about a month,” said the source.

The source revealed that the girl wanted to continue her studies. “We will see how the case goes and look for funds to support her studies,” said the source.
