Playing football with fingers
31 October 2008
If you are a football enthusiast and hear about the Centenary National Football Championship, don’t go looking for real football players at a real football ground. This tournament will be played on large screens by Thimphu’s fastest fingers, not feet.
Organised by two private companies, KLK anImagine and Prayers Wheel Pictures, Bhutan’s first gaming tournament will played using the game, Winning Eleven 20, on the Sony Play Station platform. It will be played between December 1 and 17 at the centenary ground in Thimphu.
The tournament, which is themed as “celebrating the age of technology,” is open to all age groups. “There is no age bar but children below the age of 15 will have to have fingersparents’ consent,” said Kinga Sithup, one of the organisers.
He said that he ideated this tournament because he wanted to be a part of the nationwide celebrations. “This tournament will be a platform where different age groups will be participating together and (mark our advancement into an age of) technology.”
Individuals will have to pay Nu 750 as registration fees. A knock-out fixture will be drawn up. The players will choose their teams by lucky dip from the pool of the World Cup playing countries as offered by Winning Eleven 20. The winner of the tournament will take away Nu 100,000, the runners up will take Nu 50,000 and the second runners up, Nu 25,000.
Registration began on October 28. Forms are available at all gaming parlours in Thimphu.
