The police and MPs are both public servants and if at all they should salute, they can do it to the public.

  2. rangdol on December 20th, 2008 9:31 am

umm….. i don’t think it is necessary for an individual to work hard when one salutes and not to work persistently when one does not, rather it would be better if they just fulfill their promises made during campaigns, as well they are paid handsomely, so no need to salute them, as i cant imagine two fellow cops in the saarc building saluting more than 47 of them in a row, we humans are very selfish that you give an inch they tend to take yards, give your finger to lick, they will try to sol low your finger, i am not against the MPs of both the parties but when it comes to salute, it has a higher definition than value, so last but not the least, with due respect i am really glad that Mps are doing very good job from the beginning of their term..tashi delek…but neither you people did but nor demand such things. if you all fear, love, respect and committed to the new king and pelden drukpa, it would be bad examples for next upcoming politicians like us building their foundation….love and respect,

Police men’s duty is to safequard laws of the country, rules, regulations, etc. and not to salute MPs, NCs or senior government officials.

  4. Nalenjan on December 20th, 2008 4:58 pm

I feel that police salute only the ministers and the redscarfs at the National Assembly Hall gates, Tashi Chhodzong and the National Council Hall by government circular. The Prime Minister and the Cabinet should take this bold decision.

Otherwise, the police will be jokers without pride and human dignity. After all, what will they get by trying to exploit these poor chaps who are paid very low salary?

However, at other places, they should be saluted, as they will not be innumeral and there will not be their seniors.

Even in the military, they salute the seniormost and not the others by tradition.

  5. penkor on December 20th, 2008 5:19 pm

osh, they didnt deserve the salute since themselve were man wondering before.

  6. Mountain Dew on December 21st, 2008 7:12 pm

Why should MP complain about police not saluting them? It is not necessary for Police to salute MPs.

On other hand, there is no harm in saluting them….just make them feel happy.

  7. ugen on December 22nd, 2008 4:32 pm

ummm…………………….. i think it will be better if they put more attention to the promise made during their campaign rather than salute.

  8. tashi on December 22nd, 2008 8:34 pm

why should they salute those MPs? Come on..why is Bhutan Observer coming up with such a poll……

  9. Ta Tha Gha Tha on December 23rd, 2008 8:19 am

Aaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!………….. salute for MPs. he he he …. give me a break.. Why should ploice “SALUTE” to MPs. They don’t deserve to get salute. I think only HHJ, Lopenzhib, HM, PM and Minesters only. Hey MPs, do not expect salute from police, just do your job which you promised on your camp.

  10. son ten on December 23rd, 2008 11:00 am

In order to get respect or salute from others, one should work according to their promises made during campaign. But I feel their promises are forgotten and ultimately become promise breaker as a saying “promises breaker are shoe maker” so do you think shoe marker deserved salute from other.

  11. Teepee on December 24th, 2008 3:54 pm

MPs should pay some portion of their salary to those Police to make them salute..ha ha….why MPs are so greedy..first they wanted car, then luxary office, then Patang and now they wants to be saluted..anyway…lets see how they perform their duties.

  12. Tashi Wangyel on December 25th, 2008 11:24 am

I am not sure if this is an issue. Is it?

  13. irritatedwithMPS on December 25th, 2008 2:28 pm

If MPs were members of armed forces, then they could complain about police not saluting them but as a politician you should earn salute and not demand…Fulfill your promises and police will naturally salute you without having to “DEMAND”.

MPs, its still not too late to earn it…you still have four years in hand and u can make a difference. Try to focus on your promises…and not nag about patang and allowances…i think public will still forgive your for you attititude in the past 7-8 months…on condition that you work hard on the promises you made during your campaign.

  14. rixxx on December 25th, 2008 4:36 pm

    hey MPS, what a shame????

  15. binu kumar on December 26th, 2008 11:58 am

    my god…?
come on my dear world has changed……..dont live in those egoistic world of Dasho age…..gone ….gone….MP,s if you really like police saluting you….first you salute to them and i know they will salute you in return……dont demand respect…..earn respect…..
if you live in ego….even the dogs will bark at you…!

  16. tshering on December 26th, 2008 1:50 pm

It does not nessisitates the police to salute the MPs.Thats not fair that the police have to salute every dashos. Those days are gone where stakeholder live in the world of ego.Lets all understand the present world scenerio.

  17. tata on December 26th, 2008 4:12 pm

    some MPs are kids.

rather than saluting, police should slap them.

they will grow up to be better MPs than crooked, liars, cheaters, etc.

  18. namtse on December 27th, 2008 12:45 pm

MPs should first ask themselves wether they deserve the salute or not. Salute does not constitute raising the hand to the side of the fore head alone but has a greater sense of value associated to it. MPs must remember that the respect must be earned and not demand it.

  19. Drangtu Dorji on December 29th, 2008 11:39 am

I am very sad why people wonder as MPs should be saluted or not. In dept all should justify and make clear the role of MPs and benefits of the salutes to be own by them. Look, whether Mps are saluted or not their title remains as MPs and shoulder the duties as designated but without saluting too remains same. My opinion says who like to salute may be done as polite that follows the national tradition and if not does not differs and make any benefits. It is not at all necessary to salute and bind by rules. This is sense of all understanding that making confusion.

  20. 17 on December 29th, 2008 2:57 pm

Salete to MPs for what??????????? for having given free cars and residential buildings by the Govt. only god knows what they wanted after the Salute. they are very egoistic and too selfish. favors are being done and are given every thig they asked for, its has become a rutined job that they ask one after another. Police personnels are not their slaves, they are not paid by the Mps. so no salute needed.

but make sure that ur jobs are done in first hand.

  21. Drangtu Dorji on December 29th, 2008 3:24 pm

so funny.this is what we call egos problems. common u all are educated mp.

  22. Ta Tha Gha Tha on December 30th, 2008 7:56 pm

    thkx

  23. druk gi bu on January 2nd, 2009 3:45 pm

its so funny mo, rather then salute…….. they can put more and more attention to their manifesto made during the campaign.
main duty of police is to safeguard kun-cho-sum(king country and people). oh! remember that la. please put a break on it…………………………

  24. druk gi bu on January 2nd, 2009 3:55 pm

i think it is stupid idea made by them. they have to think before its been a big issue on them.
if police have to salute to MPs it is imposible to them because they have to salute to all the govt. servent ma na la.
it is nonesense……………………..put a break on it ma la.

  25. nima on January 4th, 2009 2:12 pm

I think there are more important things for the MPs to worry about than just wasting their time about policemen not saluting them. What is there in saluting or not saluting? Their objecting should be leading our country and the people into the bright future and achieve GNH. Respect should be earned not demanded.

  26. amit kumaar on January 4th, 2009 3:04 pm

wat a bull shit is it…. mps r nothin ,they all r being selected by people but hav no great qualification , so rather dan demanding salute from police they hav to pay respect to publice(police). So MPS dont be like a bull …. remember u r tenure in job is only temporarily , after four years u will be like that of dog running for food. So mps better be prepared for dat rather dan demanding for salute…. all mps r very frustrating … i bet none of them is going get the same in future.

  27. Dorji Tshering on January 5th, 2009 11:17 am

I think MP’s should acheive their menifesto promise to public rather than salute……..

  28. kinley on January 5th, 2009 12:02 pm

yush………??? y MPs are complaining for salute? Rather than getting asking for salute it is better they can work for people as told earlier. On the other hand police can salute them for the sack of their happiness.

It is better to give salute for the senior government officials with red scarf. They prefered to deserve than MP’s.

  29. kanta laga on January 5th, 2009 3:31 pm

hey MPs, of course what u are expecting is right to demand but what u have demanded are saturated now.i think u should be content with what u have. what benefit do u get by making the police salute u?wanted to upgrade your status?remember that everything has its limit. better you serve the people well, they are your real status maker if you wanna upgrade.

  30. xxx on January 6th, 2009 1:40 am

Our MPs must rem’mber that “Respect cannot be demanded but earned”There is ofcourse no harm in paying a respect to them but to demand a respect to that extent(i,e to salute them)does not make any sense to me.our MPs must try to focus their mind on their duties and not on the simple issues like this.DUTY should be their first priorty and not their personal issues…

  31. Seday on January 6th, 2009 2:19 pm

If starts saluting MPs then in the next issue of Bhutan Observer, it will read “MP Tshewang Jurmey slaps a cop for not saluting” or “MP’s wife slaps a cop”………………………………..

  32. karma on January 6th, 2009 2:21 pm

    NO……………..Y should they?

  33. ginx on January 6th, 2009 2:36 pm

i think that the 15% yes are the MP’s themselves or their family members combined but the general public option is NO

  34. prapo on January 7th, 2009 12:16 am

hey is up to them, if they need even i can salute as govt. servant, not ony police

  35. Lhaden on January 7th, 2009 10:25 am

hey druk gi bu………..for ur information King, Country and People is not kun-cho-sum, it si Tsa-wa-sum.

  36. sonam on January 8th, 2009 1:08 am

  40. Ugen Dorji on January 9th, 2009 8:39 pm

Initailly they demanded patang… big pay.. big allowances.. houses …cars and now they demad salute ….. next time what else ??? When they discuss issues in the House…it seems they dont even understand what they are saying and discussing. To earn respect, they should prove that they deserve it.. They should not demand petty things. Going at this rate… think about the future of bhutan in the hands of so called the learned law makers.

Do they deserve to be in the house next time?

  41. druk gi bu on January 10th, 2009 9:53 am

hay! lhaden,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, what you are saying, for me tsa-wa-sum & kun-cho-sum is same. buddha i reffered to king, cho i reffered to my peacefull motherland and lastly monk/gadun i mostly reffered to people ma la.

    Hell no..
but these days the police also tend to act too smart….they should behave well and be well disclipplined…

  43. arambay on January 12th, 2009 3:00 pm

Did they something great to be saluted? Instead they should salute the public for giving them so much wealth. Honourable greedies!
