A SPECIAL TRIP TO THE BOOK FAIR
31 October 2008
It was 5th of October. It was cold chilly Sunday morning. The time was about eight when we started our journey from the beautiful Chamkhar valley to Monger in the east. The purpose of the journey was to discover the world of books at the Book Fair in Mongar.
We all were thrilled to meet each another at the threshold of a common purpose to procure library books. It was good time to gear up ourselves on travel and gossip on various topics that interests us. The salary hike pertaining to our lives as teachers dominated the conversation. The journey from cold Chamkhar to warm Monger was fascinating and full of satisfaction to one and all.
Our vehicle knocked on destiny just at the arrival of dusk. I was astonished in great wonder, lost in silent contemplation, by a new and improved Mongar town. Only a few shops and hotels dwelled in small traditional buildings a decade ago. I observed the treasure-trove of wisdom at the seat of learning at Mongar High School. I could only gaze in wonder at the modern town which looks so vibrant and alive with huge concrete buildings. Mongar now housed some of the best hotels and shops with good service to all customers.
Next morning, as the morning sun danced along the beautiful blue autumn sky with full enthusiasm and zeal, we trailed in groups at the many book stalls to select the books. To get the right books and select right reading materials that suit our levels entailed turmoil against the warm sun of Mongar. However, the two days of intensive exploration for books for our cluster school gave us a thrilling experience and many rewarding moments.
The book fair was a heart opener for me to the world of books. It was a wonderful experience and a special trip that will remain in my heart for all times to come.
