His Majesty the King granted an audience to Lieutenant General Deepak Raj, General Officer Commanding 33 Corps of the Indian army at the Tashichhodzong on July 23. Lieutenant General Deepak Raj is in the kingdom on a five-day visit. He arrived in the country on July 22.

The three-day consecration of the Jangchub chorten at Ngakeythang in Lhuentse began on July 19. It was presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo, the Lam Netens of Lhuentse, Pemagatshel, Trashigang, Trashiyangtse, Mongar and the monks of Lhuentse Rabdey.

After a lot of debate, the National Council decided to grant funds for the local government elections from the Election Commission on July 22. They also reviewed the revised National Council Bill and decided to remove section 146, which states that if the National Assembly does not pass the motion of censure as passed by the National Council by a two-third majority, the same shall be null and void.

After much waiting, the Gaeddug College of Business Studies in Gedu formally opened on July 23. The college offers bachelors degree in business administration. It has 525 students and 37 lecturers.

The Health Minister, Lyonpo Zanglay Dukpa, launched a Laboratory Information System on July 21. Patients undergoing tests of blood, urine and faeces need not wait for days to get their reports now, as it can be obtained within a few hours time using the system.
