An opera called “Les Miserable” was performed in YDF hall in Thimphu on October 29 as a part of the coronation and centenary celebration by the students of St. Joseph’s school, North Point, Darjeeling.

Her Majesty the Queen Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck honoured the show. “This opera was brought to commemorate the coronation and centenary, it’s the first opera brought from our school though we came to Bhutan several times to participate in sports,” said Father Kinley Tshering of St. Joseph’s School, North Point, Darjeeling, India.

He said that he was overwhelmed by the crowd during the show, “Actually I expected a smaller crowd.” Phuntsho, a civil servant said it was rather like a musical play, “I really liked the musical rhyme and the story in it and I feel that it’s a unique way of celebrating the coronation and centenary.” Six teachers and 100 students came all the way from North Point to present Opera. They will be moving back this Saturday. About 350 people gathered to watch the musical opera.

The show will be for three days, October 29, 30 and 31 as a part of celebration where 29 was for the general public but 30 and 31 will be exclusively for the students in the capital.
