Parties agree on screening movie

5 December 2008

Producer Tshewang Dorji lost Nu 0.9 million when his movie Ley Namkey was screened illegally by the two PDP candidates, he said yesterday.

He arrived at this figure by adding up the number of places where his movie had screened and the number of shows he had intended.

“I wanted to screen the movie in Phobjikha during the Black-Necked Crane Festival and in Wangdue during the Tshechu,” he said.

At a hearing on November 27, sound editor Chungdu Tshering would not admit he had supplied the movie to the two parties so Tshewang had requested the court summon Tshering Tobgay, the Opposition leader and Rinzin Namgay, the Wangdue candidate for People’s Democratic Party, to find out how copies of the movie were leaked.

Rinzin Namgay agreed he had screened the movie, which he obtained from the PDP co-ordinator in Thimphu. “Mila Tobgay sent it to my house but the movie was not screened commercially, and I had no idea about copyright infringements,” he said.

He admitted screening the movie in Nobding, Gangtey, Samteygang and Wangdue town. He said as soon as he got a call from the Opposition Leader he handed the movie over to him. “After coming back, Tshering Tobgay had enquired about the movie and I handed it over to him,” he said.

Mila Tobgay, who is the former Vice President of the Motion Picture Association of Bhutan (MPAB) said that the Opposition Leader had asked him to get some CDs from his brother’s house and give it to Rinzin Namgay. “I was not aware of what the CDs contained and so only helped the Opposition Leader to reach the CDs to Rinzin Namgay,” he said.

Tshering Tobgay has not yet given his written statement to the court and the final verdict is yet to be passed.

“……..screened illegally by the two political parties, ….”. What the ….? When i read the details, it’s only PDP candidates who screened the movie. Where the is editor gone? This kind of simple and careless mistakes are the main source of rumors. Act professionally guys.
