First private free school for Thimphu
27 December 2008
Starting 2009, Singye Group of Companies will start Thimphu’s first free community school in Bjemina.
The school will be a charity school. Books, stationeries and uniforms will be provided by the school.
“To begin with, we will start pre-primary classes and class one, which will slowly be upgraded in the future,” said Tshering Chhoden, Programme Officer in Singye Group of Companies.
The idea of starting a free community school was conceived by Singye Chairman, Ugyen Tshechub, a long time ago. He said that the government was stressed with providing free education. Schools are overcrowded, which compromised the quality of education.
“So I am trying to make a small difference,” he said. He assured that even though free, the quality of education will be good. “We are looking for good teachers and the school will have other facilities like computers and library,” he said.
The school, the infrastructure of which is almost completed, will give preference to children from economically poor backgrounds.
The school is expected to benefit the factory workers as well as locals in the area.

This is a heartening news.
I wish everybody involved in this venture the best of luck.
Wow, it is great. But why a school in Jemina? And why a comunity school to releive the goverment. I am sure to the Jemina is well to do with the community level education. Is it not a SOMKE SCREEN?
If singye want to help, don’t just harm that is the message. why not help the people and innocent children around Jemina by giving them back the right to free and clean air to breath. Solution is straight forward, do not need to bend the truth: operate the SINGYE STONE INDUSTRY in a much cleener way. Anyway KILL THE PEOPLE SOFTLY.
Professional ethics of journalist (Tandin Pem) to present a one sided propaganda is questionable.
Good work Singye Group of Companies.
Great news.. now that is what I call Corporate Social Responsibility.. it has come finally..
Its good that private enterpreneurs are now being socially responsible. Its high time that they give back to the society what they have benefited or taken away from the society. its a good initiative Singye Construction is doing for the society. But let me ask a question to the MD of all the places in Bhutan why Bjemina Sir? it very obvious that you have a strong motive to set up your school there. As far as we see it you just pawning because you got the Bjemina Minning scam still unresolved. So please be informed that after the havoc and pollution you caused to our environment, you are still erased from the minds of the people. If i may suggest: how about setting up the school where the Mining is? that would be environmentally friendly and being socially responsible. So Sir, Think ok it..its a win win situation.
Singe Grroup of Companies is doing the great job and it is firest time in Bhutan thouse have a poor family back ground. I appriciated to Dasho Ugen Tshechhub.
Keep it up.
M sure this small difference of Mr Chairman of Singay Groups of Company will really make a very big difference in some childerens life…thanks to the Chairman of singay Company for taking up such a noble venture.
It is a good initiative taken by chairman of singye groups of companies and i am sure that it will make big difference to the life of low income people. Dasho has taken extra work for the benefit of Bhutanese and hoping to see similar act from other private company.
Heartiest thanks to Singye Induestry for establishing the charity school. But why in Jemina. Should have been elsewhere where the community is economically challenged.
But m sure they will certainly make a move gradually.

Dear Sir ,
It is a great service to the nation. Bhutan is facing many challenges. Educating the youthof the country is a big ask.

Dear sir,
It is very heartening to hear some one is thinking on this line. Educating children in Bhutan with meagre resources in the country is a great service to the nation.
