28 November 2008

After reviewing the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer of Bhutan Post, the Lhengye Zhungtshog announced yesterday that the committee had not abided by the selection criteria.

The Lhengye Zhungtshog will replace the current board of directors with a new set of members and the selection committee members will be severely reprimanded. Yesterday, a press release from the Cabinet Secretariat said, “With the announced criteria, none of the applicants qualified and the process should have been re-advertised.”

Phala Dorji, the officiating Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC), who is also the ex-officiating Chairman of the Corporation’s Board of Directors, will also be changed. The present Board of Directors are Sonam P. Wangdi, the Director of Department of Trade, Phub Tshering, the Secretary General of the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Choiten Wangchuk, the Director of the Department of Budget.

Choiten Wangchuk said the Cabinet’s decision was “news to him”. He said, “Since the Anti Corruption Commission’s report was submitted to the government, I don’t know on what basis and why they took this decision.” Phub Tshering, who has been a member of the board of directors of the corporation for two years, said that he had no comments on the issue. Sonam P. Wangdi was out of the country when contacted.

Regarding the selected applicant, it was observed that the chairman had ambiguously presented the decision of the Board to the MoIC. “The decision made by the board was unclear as to who it recommended and the Minister had approved the candidate,” said Dasho Sherub Tenzin, the Cabinet Secretary in the press release.

The appointed candidate was not found to be at fault as he had already resigned from the civil service. Therefore, Lhengye Zhungtshog found it inappropriate to reconsider his appointment. The newly appointed CEO will be placed under probation period for a year and the new Board will be required to monitor his performance against set management goals, objectives and standards.

Hey BO, Editors need to look at the draft news at least once before it is posted on the public domain. It exhibits your lack of professionalism and seriousness in the press business. I as a regular reader of your paper am deeply disappointed by the sheer carelessness.

It was encouraging decision made by cabinets. This is the time to count on efficient people as HM alsways remind us and tteach us to be different but efficient to proof in the world. So keeping the words of HM there must not have any space on Dasho,s relative, royal family lineage, Minister,s family, Rich children. We need a efficient , hard working and non corroupt person to serve our country and lead us to progress.
Thanks to cabinet and we always hope you will give hand to His majesty to bring Corrouption out of system.
We sincerely appreciate to ACC for being sincere. Please intention makes decision wrong, so ACC need to always generate good intention rather being personal.

Yup, very well-said Jun. Bo repeats such goof-ups with amazing regularity! Its a shame that while Bhutan Times takes ages to update and upload their web with a maximum of 3 news pieces, BO on the other hand, just update them for the sake of updating!
