That’s great news.I am a frustrated customer of cable TVs because we are given no option. There is no consumer rights in Bhutan and these cable operators are exploiting every Bhutanese like what Bmobile once did. Some channels were banned in Thimphu but it’s availble in other dzongkhags.Where is the uniformity? Are people in other Dzongkhags not Bhutanese?BICMA has done nothing despite people’s repeated out cry.Every individual should have the freedom to do what he or she likes unless otherwise illegal. That’s what democracy is all about. Yes, I agree that some channels does change our mentality but it’s everyone’s reponsibility to give our positive judgement to it.

  8. Tashee on December 9th, 2008 11:54 am

It is good for the people for those rural places. Theres no doubt about it. And also as Letho mentioned all the people deserve to have access to all the channels if paid for. We get tired of watching all those same bollywood movies. We in Thimphu do need channels like Ten Sports and more. Or else Shah Rukh Khan
    in Urban Bhutan

  9. rangdol on December 20th, 2008 10:09 am

this is how our people will walk 10 miles ahead…..and BICMA should not enter fare now…please just dont enter fare…..for gods sake…..enjoy people….

  10. namgay on December 26th, 2008 11:14 am

  11. Qarma on January 4th, 2009 12:47 pm

Wat a delight n ecstatic moment to hear… The people did the rite thing…. No men should wait for the system to change rather its our duty to change the system… Make things happen provided that it doesn’t effect the mindset of people….

  12. Thinlee on January 14th, 2009 11:06 am

The Bhutanese system so far were pathetic.

  13. yeshey Tshewang on January 30th, 2009 3:41 pm

That’s a long waiting good news for the remote location ! we shouild rememeber that we need to be exposed to the outer world to get updated in life irrespective of the age limits.

  14. jeon on February 4th, 2009 8:29 pm

we r on the way….great to know that……Wow awesome

  15. Tshewang on February 11th, 2009 3:41 pm

In this globalised world such a change will make a greater impact. It has happened now and and I am sure many will follow. The path is now cleared. Now our fellow citizens will be well informed about the recent happenings both locally and globally.

  16. chimo on March 23rd, 2009 8:00 pm

Wow that’s good news for the people in Rural areas. Finally Bhutan is becoming digitize. Good to hear such news. Wish even broad band reaches soon to such areas. Then Bhutan will rock in digitized world.

  17. u the PAIN,M the CURE on April 3rd, 2009 11:02 am

Thats what everyone of us awaited for,now people esp. students in rural area will know what are the latest changes going around in the world and they, unlike us won’t get lost while seeing all the new things in Urban areas because they have already seen it in TV channels. We as a public should not be concerned about it’s legality unless it has some draw backs to the people watching cos not more then help it won’t be of any harm to the people around watching programs in the rural………………………Cheers to Dish KAra,Wish KAro

  18. pemc on May 12th, 2009 4:02 pm

that suits best for bhutan where settlements are scattered and having a cable service will be difficult…stretching out all over and making the environment look more ugly. moreover, cable service lack innovations…..no maintenance, no regular check ups….just collect monthly rentals……and im still wondering why ppl are made to pay Nu. 1500 just to have a card in our name while they dont have to do any operational work for connection…this is incase of where there is cable line streched out already….

  19. Tshering Dendup on June 24th, 2009 12:43 pm

This is the handsome news for all Bhutanese people and if it is possible we all would like to follow your footprints and legendary pass to our upgrowing generation. And indeed it was the wide opportunity to exposed to the outer world……..any how thanks at your apex…..

  20. meena on July 23rd, 2009 9:42 am

Good to know all these, but will be able to use dish TV instead of cable TV coz we r near the town,

  21. Ram Oser on July 30th, 2009 12:35 pm

Who cares SRK? we should be away from bollyhood movies and TV soaps. I hate programs like ‘mujay is jungle sey bachawo’. All fake… if they really want to do do it like ‘man vs wild’.
We have 90% unwanted tv chennels,w e don’t want to click on it. programs like star plus, sony, zee and many more like wise are just advising our bhutanese ladies to do the same – bad news for us. When is thew time that we should learn for betterment?…
Don’t care SRK at all, no actors in my joy list. Common talk about Obama! Talk about China planning tio minimize the executions, talk about troops being withdrawn from iraq and afganistan, talk about big players are bad players.

  22. jags on August 8th, 2009 5:05 pm

there was a rumour that the BICMA would allow the bhutanese to go for other options in tv viewing through legalising DTH.
Where has the BICMA goneÞ Its time that the concerned authority take the fullest measure to let the bhutanese enjoy the freedom of their choice.

  23. jags on August 8th, 2009 5:10 pm

Empowering our teachers was a sublime vision initiated by the MoE in collabaration with the bank. well we see that it wqas a noble endeveour but when are their computers going to be ath their hands.

time to realise the ministry’s dream of making the teachers technologically informed.

  24. pema tashi on August 15th, 2009 9:06 am

it is such an interesting views to all of our urban lifes that will keep them connected to the outer world. but it seems that every part of this visions should give more notice of advantage than keeeping them in awaiting.

  25. Yoezer on August 19th, 2009 3:05 pm

Wipe out the name of SRK from rural Bhutan!!! Don’t mess with dirt!

  26. Yoezer on August 19th, 2009 3:09 pm

i mean don’t mess Bhutan with DIRT!

  27. Dharma on September 4th, 2009 7:10 pm

Being a citizen of bhutan. I am out side the country since 1992(when i was 6 years old) but than also iam very glad to hear the news that the people of druk are haveing the dish TV in the rural area.
    Recently resettled in USA

  28. tshering on September 7th, 2009 9:08 pm

it has been both good and bad for bhutanese people to havethis very knews.i would suggest that it will better if details like what he will be doing while being in rural bhutan and also state clearly do’s & don’ts

  29. bryan on September 12th, 2009 12:25 pm

it is good to hear that dish tv should is infuencing in ruler…i did like to say one thing that dish tv should not only be introduced in ruler but also it needs to be legal to towns and cities……cables r too expensive and with limited channels but where as in dish the channels are provided according to the customers need and on top of that it is a once investments….i support that there r much good education channels in dish tv so we can give youngs a good future for tomorrow…

  30. bikash on September 12th, 2009 9:38 pm

    is sharukh mad!

  31. Tashi on September 13th, 2009 1:52 pm

I m 4rm rural excited wid dis news.customers will rush for the best and cheapest services of their choice, that is the law of economics. we r paying and not the cable operators

  32. fallen angel on September 15th, 2009 6:23 pm

well…..i think this introduction may divert rural individuals far away from our age old traditions.

  33. Tshering Yeshi on September 23rd, 2009 4:15 pm

Having a Dish TV is better than cable line. BICMA, says people are not allowed to used dish tv but why?, are they listening to cable operator association?…we have a right and we can use dish tv even in place like thimphu and phuentsholing. we are paying for it not the operators. this a world of 21st century, everything canot be control by a concerned authority, the day wil come that bhutanes should eat only a red rice, since it is grown and cultivated in bhutan. are we going to do that?………………..if dish tv is not allowed in bhutan then BICMA is not doing the right job.

  34. Pema K Thinley on September 23rd, 2009 9:07 pm

To provide the cable line in every conner of the country is impossible, but having dish tv is the only main source to entertain the peoples of the rural area.therefore Thoda aur wish karo. Dish karo

  35. chandra on October 8th, 2009 11:16 am

such a lovely news yeah king khan visited our royal kingdom

  36. TENZIN on October 14th, 2009 9:25 pm

IT IS NOT SHAHRUKH WHICH LET RURAL BHUTAN LET TO ADOPT DISH TV…IT IS THERE NECESSITY N ENTERTAINMENT….SAY IN RURAL BHUTAN..WHERE EXCESS TO CABLE TV IS FAR…THEY WORK WHOLE DAY IN FIELD..AND ..AT NIGHT WHEN THEY GATHER AT HOME ..THEY WANT SOME ENTERTAINMENT..THEY CAN’T ALWAYS EAT AND SLEEP..THEY HAVE THEIR LIFE…AND IF EDUCATED PERSON IS THERE IN FAMILY THEN THEY CAN WATCH NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC,DISCOVERY.HISTORY AND LOTS OF NEWS CHANNEL WHICH KEEP THEM UPDATED WITH THE HAPPENNING IN THE OTHER PART OF WORLD..THEY CAN PICK UP NEW LANGUAGES..
I THINK EVERYTHING HAVE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES..IT DEPEND ON INDIVIDUAL TO PICK UP RIGHT THING FOR THEMSELVES….WHETHER IT IS DISH OR CABLE….INFORMATION IN PEOPLE RIGHT…..SO I LIKE PEOPLE TO WISH KARO N DISH KARO….AS EACH OF US DIFFERENT TALENT TO SUIT OURSELVES.

  37. PENNY ARGEITI on October 22nd, 2009 10:10 pm

In my village in the mountains of Greece, we have managed to put our own dishes otherwise it can be very isolated in winter, so good thing that this village managed to do it. I think everyone should have a right to choose if they want to watch the world or not. No one is forcing them to turn it on and if you knew before years ago when we had only 2 government channels, we had no option but to listen to the dictatorship army music when it used to turn on in the afternoon and what propaganda we had!! Mikis Teodorakis the composer was in jail and other great composers and authors either were in jail or escaped out of the country, but this did not stop us from gaining our freedom. I think movies help build people’s minds without realising it not just about being great actors but being great people in a real world. I say to my husband for these movies to become are ideas that have happened or try to happen to make a better world.

  38. Phurba on October 23rd, 2009 7:44 pm

Its nice & happy to know that King Khan is now in our rural area where entertainment is must after a days hard work to refreash. eg.In mi village a cable operater charge Nu.6000/- only for connection charge and the monthly charge of Nu.300/-. with which we can fix a dish TV at a cost of Nu.2600/- & a monthly charge that of a cable TV with more than 200 channel to view in dish Tv where as only 42(maximum) on cable TV. I think BICMA should let/allow our people to have a right to use it &just to stop them from Migeration.

  39. choki on October 23rd, 2009 10:37 pm

I wonder, why Bhutan is totally against Dish TV. i still remember they banned MTVs, weird isn’t?

  40. Karma Dorji on October 27th, 2009 12:24 pm

wai sob machab.Therebari laba chin TV Druk Gyalkhab na TV mingo. Those who are doing TV business are the enemies of the rural Bhutanese. Instead of letting them involved in Mani and other spiritual works they are alluring them to TV. This is bad.

  41. cyen on October 31st, 2009 5:12 pm

It is good to have all these dish tv. World and technology is very ahead. and bhutan people are still back in century with a few channel and radio. Now the world is ahead and we have to deal accordingly not breaking the rule of Chathrin Chenmo…..

  42. Ramesh Khanal on November 9th, 2009 3:40 pm

This may be dangerous to the rulers of Bhutan as the cable TV will spread the hunger of freedom and information about democratic freedom. The Bhutanese people living inside their own country may know the reality of their own country while they compare it with others.

  43. jimmy on November 11th, 2009 8:01 pm

    always go for perfect mass!

  44. Cring on November 14th, 2009 4:42 pm

Hope human rights do prevail in rural Bhutan……..it will update them and know really what the world is and King khan is what they will believe.

  45. tshering on November 14th, 2009 5:24 pm

good news to us. we ll get the taste and preferences of the servicses. the government should take part in the business to ensure that it should reach as far remote as possible yhe the least cost. now the people of bhutan should taste the reality of democracy. people will relised when you made a compare with other countries in any cases either both the directions.

  46. Thukten k tshering on November 19th, 2009 1:41 pm

    good for people

  47. Juby Philip on December 11th, 2009 5:24 pm

It is a real good step by the government as this will help the people to learn lot of things along with entertainment. And I do not believe that this will create any negative impression amoung th e common mass as as some belive, because the Bhutnees are proud of their country and their values. I totally agree with Tenzin,’ I THINK EVERYTHING HAVE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES..IT DEPEND ON INDIVIDUAL TO PICK UP RIGHT THING FOR THEMSELVES….WHETHER IT IS DISH OR CABLE’. Hats off to you Tenzin for that.

  48. pinky on December 23rd, 2009 6:43 pm
