His Majesty the King granted an audience to the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, Mr Rohitha Bogollagama, at the Tashichhodzong on Monday. He was on a two-day official visit.

In keeping with the government policy of promoting private sector development, the Lhengye Zhungtshog has approved the outsourcing of the security management of the JDWNRH to the G4S firm.

The YDF has initiated the Golden Youth Awards.The award will be given to youth who demonstrate outstanding achievements. A weeklong camp will start on July 6, where representatives from all the 20 dzongkhags will attend to compete for the Golden Youth title.

On July 1, the NC opposed en bloc the NA attempt to berth a constituency development grant of Nu 94 million under an unspecified head in the annual budget. The lower house passed the budget last week that had allotted Nu 2 million for each constituency a year.

On June 30, the NA resolved that campaigns will not be allowed for local government elections, either with government funds or at their own expense.

On June 30, the private media, comprising three radio stations and two newspapers, were allocated a budget of Nu 4 million compared with Nu 221 million to BBSC.

The BBC reported this week that fledgling democracy in- Bhutan has been forced into stopping MPs from taking laptops into the parliament, after politicians were allegedly caught playing games instead of debating national issues. It is unclear what games were being played.
