As part of the celebration of the Centenary of Monarchy, the consecration of the National Memorial Choeten Restoration will take place on June 28.

The Bhutan Narcotic Control Agency observed the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking yesterday at the Yangchenphug HSS.

The Punakha district court has sentenced six men between 19 and 28 years to three years imprisonment for possession of psychotropic drugs. The six men were found in possession of marijuana between Toeb Thinleygang and the village of Toeb Lingkha.

Phuentsholing customs officials seized tobacco products worth Nu. 400,000 on June 21. The consignment was being smuggled in a truck hidden carefully under a load of fertilizers. This is the largest consignment of tobacco products to be seized so far.

The Finance Minister, Lyonpo Wangdi Norbu, presented the National Budget report for the 2008-2009 Financial Year in the NA on June 23. The total expenditure for the 2008-2009 financial year is estimated at Nu. 23,072 million.

The MoE recruited 219 university graduates as temporary teachers and reinstated 21 retired teachers on contract basis to address the acute teacher shortage. But 24 university graduates have withdrawn and one of the possible reasons is said to be because of placements in remote places.

A man was severely mauled by a bear at around 3:00 pm on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred in Tsilawni village in Phuntsholing, where the bear had already mauled a few villagers last year.
