Children and Youth festival observed

Bhutan: The three-day festivalon Youth and Democracy heldat the clock tower, Thimphureceived a welcoming response.

Hundreds of people includingchildren, high officials andforeigners attended the festivalfrom 10 to 12 November coincidingwith childrens day andthe 52nd birth anniversary of thefourth Druk Gyalpo.

The event was aimed to helpyouth understand democracy.“The youth have to be aware ofthe current events so that they canbenefit the kingdom in the longrun,” said Dorji Wangchuk one ofthe organisers of the festival.

andnbsp;“This festival is to providechildren with prospect to explorethemselves with artistic talents,”said Dorji Wangchuk.He said that the festival wasto promote creativity, self-assuranceand hope for the youth.

andnbsp;“Onthe whole it is to engage youth inthese current political changes,”he said.Students from various schoolskeenly took part in this fest. “I amnot taking part to have fun butto understand democracy,” said Yangchen Dolkar, student fromSunshine Primary School.

The three-day fest showcaseddifferent programmes like shortfilm and documentary, openkaraoke competition, exhibitionof photographs and arts by theyouth.Attractive prizes were givenaway to the winners of thecompetitions.

Education minister LyonpoThinley Gyamtsho was the chiefguest at opening ceremony andHer Majesty Ashi Tshering PemWangchuck attended the closingceremony.

The festival was organised bythe Kids Media Club supportedby NCWC, UNICEF and UNDP.
