12th BOC- Funakoshi Table-Tennis Championship

The 12th BOC-Funaksohi Table Tennis Championship started off with Beginner Boys’s, Beginner Girls’s and Sub-Junior Boys’s matches yesterday.

About 150 participants in five categories— Open Singles, Open Doubles, Beginner Boy’s Singles, Beginner Girls’ Singles, Junior Boys’ Singles below 18 years, Sub-Junior Singles below 12 years— are taking part in the tournament.

An entry fee of Nu 50 is charged in Open Singles and Doubles category only since participants in rest of the category are all students.

A match is played best of five in a game made of 11 points each.

“The purpose is to strengthen the friendship between Funakoshi community, who has been helping us since 1994 and BOC. It is also aimed to promote and to motivate the youngsters to take up the sport,” said Shyamlal Chettri, National Coach.

BTTF will also select four players from Junior Boys’ group to represent the country in the International Invitational Youth Table-tennis championship in May, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The winners and the runners-up will be awarded cups and certificates. The certificates will also be given away to all the participants.

The event sponsored by Funakoshi community, Japan is organized by Table Tennis Federation in association with BOC.

The finals will be played tomorrow.
